Grades, Quality Points and Grade Point Average

All work is graded by letters which are assigned quality points as interpreted below:

Letter Grade Numerical Value Gradepoint
A 93-10 4.0
A- 90-92 3.7
B+ 87-89 3.3
B 83-85 3.0
B- 80-82 2.7
C+ 77-79 2.3
C 73-76 2.0
C- 70-72 1.7
D+ 67-69 1.3
D 62-66 1.0
D- 60-62 0.7
F 0-59 0.0
WP 0.0 0.0
WF 0.0 0.0
I 0.0 0.0

A specific grade point average (GPA) must be maintained to receive diplomas, certificates or degrees from CLU. Grade point averages are computed by adding the grade points for each grade (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0, I=0) and dividing the result by the total number of courses taken. For example, if a student has taken 8 courses and received the grades A, A, B, B, B, C, D and F, he would have 20 grade points. Divide the number of grade points by the number of courses taken (8) to get his grade point average.

Incomplete Students

Because of illness or other extenuating circumstances, students may receive an Incomplete (I) on a course. This must be approved by the President or Academic Dean. All work and exam(s) must be finished within the designated time period based upon the type of course of study or an "I'" will be recorded. No work or exam will be accepted if submitted later than the designated completion date. In the case of mail, the postmark will be the determining factor.

Withdrawing Students

Credit students have the option of "withdrawing" from the course no later than thirty days after the conclusion of the classroom instruction. In such cases, a "WP," withdraw passing, or a "WF" withdraw failing, is recorded on the official transcript of the student. The President or Academic Dean of CLU makes the choice of "WP" or "WF" The President/Academic Dean of CLU must submit a Student Withdrawal Request Form to the office of the academic dean of CLU. In the event of a withdrawal, the student is still responsible for full credit tuition to CLU.

Course Challenge Examination

CLU students who have not taken a specific course may take a challenge examination for that course. The student is required to purchase all course materials (textbook, syllabus) and pay credit tuition fees ($90) for 3 credits and an examination fee ($25).

Make-up Final Examinations

Any student who previously took a course at CLU and wants to take the final examination again to improve a grade may order a “make-up” examination within 10 days after receiving their grade. The student will receive an examination and related materials. The student will have 45 days from the date they received the materials to complete the examination and return it. The cost for this will be $130.
